SBOC 2003 Dukane Precast Plant Tour Is Declared a Success!

In Lieu of the April Meeting, SBOC decided to take a field trip to the Dukane Precast Plant in Naperville. The trip was held on Thursday, April 18, 2002 and attracted  over 100 building officials from our member communities.  We met at 12:00 noon and opened with a catered lunch, which, by the way, was very good. 

Afterwards, we were briefed on the afternoon's agenda and separated into small groups for the tour of the manufacturing plant next door.

This plant specializes in manufacturing Dukane's residential precast product which is currently used in the development of an upscale single-family subdivision in Bolingbrook. Insulation, electrical conduit and boxes, heating coils and air-conditioning supply ducts are all embedded within the concrete walls as the fabricated panels are produced. Exterior walls are rated R-30 and roof panels at R-40. 

The exterior side of these panels come in a variety of textures, such as brick or cedar siding to name two. The interior side of the exterior wall panels and the load bearing interior wall panels produce extremely flat walls and when painted match the non-load bearing walls built of steel studs and drywall. The engineering process and equipment needed to produce these panels is absolutely amazing.
